The Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card doesn’t exactly make it to the top of most hotel credit card picks, but it does offer some underrated benefits that might fit your travel needs. From an increased sign-up bonus that can be used for flexible travel bookings to an annual rewards bonus and elite status, the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card is worth a second look:

Use points flexibly. The sign-up bonus on this card has been increased to 75,000 points after $2,000 spent within 3 months. The great thing about earning points rather than free nights like with the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card is the flexibility it gives you in terms of redemptions. You can use the bonus points to cover 15 nights at a Category 1 Hotel, 2-3 nights at a mid-tier property, or one free night at a Category 7 – 10 hotel, depending on the hotel and season. Having points rather than free nights also allows you to book Hilton Points & Money rewards, which means these points could go even further. Bottom line: This sign-up bonus is ideal for those who don’t plan on a top-tier category hotel redemption and want something more flexible than two free nights.

No annual fee. Everyone should have at least one no annual fee credit card: One that earns valuable rewards and preferably offers some kind of recurring perk. The Citi Hilton HHonors Visa not only pays out 6 points per $1 at Hilton hotels, 3 points per $1 at gas stations, drugstores, and supermarkets, and 2 points per $1 everywhere else — the card also comes with an annual retention bonus …

10,000 Hilton HHonors bonus points annually. Every calendar year that Citi Hilton HHonors cardholders spend $1,000 or more on Hilton hotel stays, they will earn an annual 10,000 HHonors bonus points. Considering the card has no annual fee and Hilton HHonors happens to be one of the most generous hotel rewards programs for earning free nights, this is a very nice perk to add to the card. Think of it as an extra 10 points per $1 spent – which is insanely generous considering the card already pays out 6 points per $1 and Hilton HHonors Silver members earn a minimum of 10 points per $1 plus a 15 percent base point bonus.

Elite status. You won’t get outright HHonors Gold status for carrying this card like you would with the Hilton Reserve Card, but you do get Silver status and an opportunity to reach Gold status faster. Cardholders can upgrade to HHonors Gold after completing 4 stays within 90 days of account opening. Prefer to spend your way to elite status? Putting $20,000 in purchases on the Citi Hilton HHonors card is another way to reach HHonors Gold status without completing the normal 20 stays/40 nights.

Visa Signature Benefits. Having the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card gives you access to the Visa Signature program, which includes some amazing travel deals. In the past, Visa Signature has offered free CLEAR membership, discounts on amusement park tickets, and car rental deals.  There’s also the Visa Signature Luxury Hotel Collection, where cardholders can get discounts on hotel stays and elite-type benefits like complimentary breakfast and room upgrades based on availability.
