Chase has great rewards, and that can make the 5/24 rule frustrating.
There are ways around it — applying for a card in a branch, upgrading, finding loopholes — but there are also a few Chase cards that don’t fall under the rule at all (at least anecdotally) .
Chase Business Credit Cards
Several people have reported that business credit cards do not count toward your 5 personal credit cards (even with Chase). In general, issuers do not show business credit cards on your personal credit report. And, like the Sapphire cards, several of them offer big bonuses.
The Ink Business Preferred Card offers 80,000 points. It is, of course, after you spend $5,000 within 3 months (If that makes you cringe, check out our ways to meet minimum spends without spending extra).
There are also other great bonuses, like triple points on travel, shipping and advertising — up to $150,000 — and free protection for your phone.

Co-Branded Hotel Cards
Chase has several co-branded hotel cards. These don’t fall under the 5/24 rule, meaning you can still be approved if you’ve opened more than 5 accounts in the past 24 months. However, they do count as one of 5 accounts if you’re planning on getting another Chase card that requires you to be under 5/24.
The IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card, for example, gives you a 60,000 point bonus after spending just $1,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. You also get another 5,000 points if you add an authorized user in the same time period.
Even if you don’t make frequent stays, cardholders get a free night at any IHG property in the world (and there are some great ones) on their account anniversary.
Other Great Post-5/24 Chase Hotel Credit Cards Include:
- Chase Hyatt
- Chase Fairmont
- Chase Ritz-Carlton
- Chase Marriott Business
- Chase British Airways
- Chase Disney Rewards
- Chase Disney Premier
- Chase Amazon
- Chase AARP
Have you been able to get any of these cards while under 5/24?
