Depending on what region of the country you live in, some credit cards may be more beneficial for you than others. Today we’re going to take a look at the best credit cards for you if you live in Colorado – specifically if you most often fly out of Denver International Airport (DEN).
First, let us understand what flight options are available from Denver. Denver is the main hub for both Frontier Airlines and Great Lakes Airlines as well as the fourth-largest hub for United Airlines. Denver has also become a major focus city for Southwest Airlines. Because of all of these great airline options, there are a few credit cards that really make sense for you if you live in or near Denver. Here are our recommendations.

Currently, you can earn 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards when you sign up and spend at least $4,000 within the first three months from account opening. The Chase Sapphire Preferred is going to give you the most versatility because Ultimate Rewards transfer to United, Southwest, and a handful of other airline and hotel transfer partners. In case you need some extra ideas for things to do with your miles – here are my five favorite Ultimate Rewards airline transfer partners.
2. United Mileage Plus Explorer Card

United miles will get you far when you’re living near United’s fourth largest hub. United services a bunch of destinations with direct flights all year long as well as a handful of seasonal destinations. That’s not to mention that having access to United miles means that you also have access to Star Alliance partner flights, of which there are a few departing from Denver including direct flights to Munich and Frankfurt on Lufthansa. Currently, you’ll get 30,000 United miles after applying for this card and spending $1,000 in the first three months.
3. Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card
Southwest is a great option especially if you are primarily interested in domestic and Caribbean travel. The fact that there are so many Southwest flights out of Denver can be made even more valuable with the Southwest Companion Pass! Southwest services 59 destinations with direct flights all year long from Denver as well as two seasonal flights. If you apply for the credit card now, you’ll earn 50,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards after spending $2,000 in purchases in the first three months of account opening.
Frontier is another option if you primarily focus on travel close to home. Frontier follows more of a low-cost carrier methodology, so keep that in mind when you’re considering flights. Flights might cost less miles or dollars, but you might need to pay more to check a bag! Nonetheless, Frontier can be a great option, especially for shorter trips. Right now, you can get the the Frontier World Mastercard and earn 40,000 miles after spending only $500 on purchases in the first 90 days.
5. Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Card
This one is a little bit of an oddball, but Alaska Airlines has some very cool partnerships that you can make good use of when you are flying from Denver. You can fly to Seattle on Alaska and connect onwards to other destinations that Alaska Airlines services. You can also fly directly to Reykjavík, Iceland on IcelandAir or London on British Airways, the six destinations that American Airlines services, and eight destinations serviced by Delta.
There are many other credit card options that may be useful to Denver-based travelers, but these are my five favorites. You might even find some hidden gems if you are willing to think outside the box and learn about some new programs!
