For the first time, rather than bonus points the card is offering two free nights’ accommodation at participating SPG category 1-5 hotels and resorts once you spend $5,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. The offer ends October 19th, 2016 and is only open to new applicants.
Starwood has a wide spectrum of properties worldwide, ranging from simple category 1 hotels (which require 2000 to 3000 Starpoints a night for a standard room) through to premium, lavish category 7 hotels (that come at a value of 30,000 to 35,000 Starpoints per night). Starwood has over 1,300 hotels and resorts in over 100 countries where you can redeem points and there are no blackout dates (though some resorts may charge surplus service fees). Starwood’s properties include brands like St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Le Méridien, Westin, Element Hotels and Four Points by Sheraton.
The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card earns you 2 Starpoints for every dollar you spend on eligible purchases at participating SPG hotels. However, those 2 points can actually be worth 4 or 5 points per dollar. The card awards you 2 Starpoints for every dollar you spend, and if you’re a member of the Starwood Preferred Guest Program, you get an additional 2 Starpoints (or three Starpoints if you have Starwood Preferred Guest Elite status) for each eligible dollar. All other purchases net you 1 Starpoint per dollar.
Points can be redeemed for free stays at participating hotels and resorts. You can also get free flights by transferring your points to a frequent flier program with any one of Starwood’s over 30 airline partners (at a 1:1 rate unless otherwise noted). You also get an additional 5,000 points when you transfer 20,000 Starpoints to an eligible frequent flyer program.
The card features additional perks like free in-room, Internet access and free, unlimited Wi-Fi at more than 1,000,000 Boingo hotspots worldwide for up to four devices. It also grants cardholders credit for 5 nights and 2 stays every year toward getting SPG Elite status.
The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card also gives you access to 24/7 global assistance for travelers, roadside assistance, travel and baggage insurance and loss and damage insurance on rental cars. Cardholders also get benefits like extended warranty and purchase protection. The card has no foreign transactions fees and the annual fee of $95 is waived for the first year. The APR ranges from 15.49% to 19.49% based on a variety of factors like your creditworthiness.
